Seth Meyers’ wife gave birth in the lobby of their apartment building
Seth Meyers is a dad again! Meyers and his wife, Alexi Ashe, faced a harrowing delivery with the birth of their first son, but the couple’s second child entered the world in an even more unusual way. Last night, April 9th, on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the comedian told the (almost) unbelievable story of how his wife, Alexi Ashe, gave birth to their second son in the lobby of their apartment building.
Meyers said that he was feeding his 2-year-old son, when his mother-in-law came downstairs and shouted that his wife had gone into labor. He called an Uber, but as soon as the group reached the apartment lobby, his wife insisted that the baby was coming.
"We basically get to the steps of our building, we're in the lobby and we're walking down the steps and my wife just says, ‘I can't get in the car, I'm going to have the baby right now, the baby is coming,'" Meyers said.
Meyers reportedly tried to calm his wife down and reassure her that it would be all right. But soon it became apparent that they were not going to make it to the hospital. Ashe laid down on the floor while Meyers, her mother, and the doula gathered around her. From there, the baby came quickly.
"I called 911 and over the course of a minute conversation, I said, ‘We’re about to have a baby; we’re having a baby; we had a baby,'" Meyers told his audience.

The fire department and EMTs arrived at Meyers’ apartment complex to cut the umbilical cord, and Meyers reassured the audience that just in case there was any doubt, he had photographic evidence.

Despite the unusual setting of his birth, the couple’s son, Axel Strahl Meyers, was delivered safe and sound. One thing’s for sure, though: Axel’s parents aren’t likely to forget this hectic birth story anytime soon. Congratulations to Meyers and his family!
