Today in ‘Serial’ news: There’s going to be a book about Adnan Syed

Two weeks ago, we discovered that America’s top real-life crime podcast, Serial, has helped effectively re-opened the case against Adnan Syed. Now, according to Entertainment Weekly, there will be a book written about Syed’s case.

The book, which will be titled Adnan’s Story: Murder, Justice, and The Case That Captivated a Nation, will be published by St. Martin’s Press and is authored by co-host of Undisclosed Rabia Chaudry; Chaudry initially made Serial‘s Sarah Koenig aware of Syed’s case. According to EW, the book will “will reexamine the investigation that led to Adnan Syed’s arrest, share his life in prison, discuss new evidence and possibilities that have since come to light, and review the recent court successes — including a ruling by a Maryland judge to reopen Syed’s case.”

Chaudry and Syed were in contact long before Serial‘s immense popularity, said Syed in a press release:

The case was re-opened after Syed’s classmate, Asia McClain, gave an alibi for Syed during the time his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, was murdered.

“The only reason Asia is back in the case is because she listened to Serial,” Chaudry told EW earlier this month. “She had no idea what the prosecutor said at the [original] hearing, so she heard the podcast and said ‘No wait, that’s not what happened,’ and then she came forward again. These things have had a tremendous impact, and there’s no way we would’ve had this hearing reopened without both Serial and Undisclosed.”

Chaudry’s book is set for publication in September 2016.
