Serena Williams dedicated her Wimbledon loss to her fellow moms, and the video will make you so emotional

Serena Williams is the greatest athlete of all time. It’s hardly a debate at this point. Aside from her absolutely incredible performance(s) as a tennis superstar, Williams is something else. She’s a mother. Not only is Williams a mom who remains a total badass in her career choice, but she always takes it one step further.

Maybe you’ve heard that Williams won the Australian Open while pregnant. Or maybe you’ve heard her speak about the American healthcare system, advocating for black women and their rights. Williams almost died due to complications during labor while giving birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr. Yet she persisted, and has used her voice to make sure everyone knows her story. It’s really significant to have someone like Serena Williams discuss these issues and bring them to light.

And just 10 months after giving birth, Williams is out here continuing to be a champion. On Saturday, July 14th, she played in the 2018 Wimbledon Championship in London and made everyone proud. Though she took second behind her friend Angelique Kerber, Williams dedicated the day’s match to “all the moms out there” in a moving interview, Glamour reports.

Williams was strong, confident, humble, and touching. Her speech meant so much to anyone who considers themselves a mom. It was a nice reminder that people aren’t superheroes, and that women are always there for one another. After being referred to as a “superhuman supermum,” Williams deflected the compliment.

"No, I'm just me, and that's all I can be. To all the moms out there, I was playing for you today, and I tried. But you know, Angelique played really well; she played out of her mind, so you know, it was really good, and I look forward to continuing to be back out here and doing what I do best."

Williams is incredible. After losing to her friend, she was still able to get out there and tell the world that she was playing for one of the most under appreciated groups in the world: moms.

During her speech, the camera cut to two very royally important attendees: Meghan Markle, who is good friends with Williams, and her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, who is a mom herself. Both women looked emotional and proud while listening to Williams’ words.

Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, was quick to show his support for the love of his life.

We are so lucky to have Serena Williams in this world. She’s a champion, an advocate, a friend, an incredible tennis player, and truly the greatest. We send our congratulations on another match well played.
