Serena Williams revealed how she first fell for her fiancé, and it’s too cute
When we originally heard that Serena Williams was engaged to Alexis Ohanian, we were a little confused. The two were pretty quiet about their relationship, and we didn’t even know they had crossed paths with each other. But now, things are out in the open — and the two are expecting their first child together in a few months.
If you also wondered how the all-star tennis player and the co-founder of Reddit hooked up, Williams herself finally divulged the story during an interview with Vanity Fair. As she’ll beautifully grace the cover for their August 2017 issue, she gave her fans the scoop on how their relationship became official.
It turns out that Ohanian’s quick wit won her heart immediately.
According to the magazine, the two first met in Italy. Ohanian sat near Williams at breakfast, and in an attempt to get him to move, Williams tried to state that there was a rat spotted close by.
"I’m from Brooklyn. I see rats all the time," Ohanian responded.
And from there, the two formed quite the bond. Even sweeter, Ohanian took her right back to that same table in Italy to propose.
"I knew it was coming," she said. "I was like, ‘Serena, you’re 35, you’re ready. This is what you want.’"
Even so, Williams did admit that things moved pretty fast. But when it’s love, it’s love.
Williams and Ohanian will be welcoming their new arrival this September, and we know their little one will definitely be charmed with the “how we met” story!
