Sending all our love to Texas

Hello there — happy almost-September, and happy Wednesday!

It’s been a bit of a roller coaster these past couple weeks, particularly with good ol’ mother nature. We’ve gone from eclipse to hurricane in a matter of days, and as I write this, there’s a long road of Hurricane Harvey recovery ahead.

I was raised in Southeast Houston. It breaks my heart to see the destruction in my city and throughout the state. I remember the evacuation scare post-Katrina, and Hurricane Ike shortly afterwards. We spent a week walking the debris-filled sidewalks in August weather, sharing food and generator power with neighbors as we waited for the city’s power to come back on. But this storm’s effects are unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Texans already know the tremendous, generous spirit of our state, and it’s visible throughout the news. That’s who we are. I hope your Wednesday is cute, but most importantly, I hope that it’s safe, dry, and filled with love and support.

Love you, Texas.
