A makeup line dedicated to Selena is coming. We’re psyched.
Earlier this year, fans launched an online petition asking M•A•C Cosmetics to produce a limited edition collection in honor of Selena Quintanilla — the vibrant and incredible singer, songwriter, actress, and fashion designer who was tragically murdered on March 31, 1995. The petition received over 37,000 signatures — and now, the beauty gods have finally answered our prayers: M∙A∙C has officially announced plans for a multi-product collection in honor of the late superstar out late next year.
“Like the legend herself, Selena Quintanilla’s fans are an inspiration to us all for their love and enthusiasm,” M∙A∙C wrote in a Facebook post today. “It’s happening! We are excited to announce the M•A•C Selena Quintanilla collection, available in 2016.”
The Queen of Tejano was known for many things — and her flawless, unique sense of style and beauty was definitely one of them. There aren’t any major details about the collection yet, but it is guaranteed to be amazing with Selena as its inspiration.
“I am so excited that M·A·C Cosmetics will be releasing a collection in honor of my sister Selena,” Suzette Quintanilla said in a statement, according to Latina. “Helping to create this collection brings me back to all those late night conversations on our tour bus when she spoke of having her own makeup line one day. If Selena were here she would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening. History is being made.”
As a star, Selena was giving, relatable, endlessly talented, and incredibly kind to her fans. She was an icon years ahead of her time, and had so much left to give this world. Her legacy lives on in ways both big and small. We couldn’t think of a more perfect collaboration to honor her memory, and the Selena collection is easily one of M•A•C’s most highly-anticipated to date.
“Selena’s talent and beauty, inside and out, have left a colorful, meaningful impact in the world, that has continued to grow over the last two decades,” James Gager, M∙A∙C Senior Vice President/Group Creative Director, told Latina. “We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies M·A·C’s philosophy.”
The collection is set to debut late next year, and we can’t wait to buy all of it.
