The beloved and forever missed Selena Quintanilla is about to be honored in a big way
It has been 21 years since we lost the vibrantly iconic, brilliant, and overwhelmingly talented Selena Quintanilla, the Queen of Tejano Music. Her presence in music is still sorely missed — just this year, MAC unveiled a new lipstick line in honor of her famous red lips, the Hollywood Walk of Fame finally gave her a much deserved star, and now, we have another way to honor our fallen queen whose life was stolen too soon: Madame Tussauds Hollywood will be unveiling a Selena Quintanilla wax figure on August 30.
A research team composed of expert artists and sculptors began working to immortalize the singer after a petition addressed to Madame Tussauds garnered 10,000 signatures in support of a Selena wax figure — that is how important Selena still is and will always be to her fans — 21 years after she has released any music or performed on a stage.
Colin Thomas, general manager of Madame Tussauds Hollywood, expressed thoughts on Selena’s legacy and need for the museum to honor it:
” …Our figures represent icons who have made a significant impact on our culture… That perfectly describes Selena. Her influence has transcended generations and her passionate fans continue to be inspired by her to this day. We recognize this and in response, we are proud to join her fans in celebrating her legacy by immortalizing her.”
Selena’s family has played a vital role in the development of the figure, consulting with the team creating the sculpture. The museum is set to release a video of Selena’s father in which he will give the viewers a tour of Selena’s famed performance outfits and share stories of her amazing accomplishments as a Latina artist and musician in general.
Selena’s wax figure will wear a recreation of the instantly iconic black bedazzled bra that she wore during her 1993 concert at the Memorial Colliseum in Corpus Christi, Texas — which was recorded for the Grammy-winning album, Selena Live!

The wax figure will honor the 21st anniversary of Selena’s album, Dreaming of You, the only English language album that she released before her death, and one that I regularly listen to on Spotify — including right now as I write this post.
