Twitter remembers beloved “Queen of Tejano” Selena Quintanilla 23 years after her untimely death

It’s hard to believe it’s been 23 years since the tragic murder of beloved Tejano pop star Selena Quintanilla. While it’s difficult to remember such a heartbreaking loss, Selena’s legacy lives on today through her music, influence, and adoring fans.
Often called the Queen of Tejano, Selena remains one of the top-selling artists in Latin music history. Her posthumous album released in 1995, “Dreaming of You,” is still the No. 1 Latin album of the past 25 years — besting artists such as Shakira, Ricky Martin, and Buena Vista Social Club. The MAC x Selena makeup line is also the best-selling MAC celeb collaboration of all time.
Her influence truly knows no boundaries, and it’s easy to see why. Selena has continued to inspire millions of fans around the world even decades after her death, and she finally received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last November.
"I think she still represents the possibility of being a complete American, of having success, fame, being in the public realm — all while still being 'Mexican enough' and not losing touch with her family or her roots," José Limón, professor emeritus at the University of Notre Dame, told NBC News about Selena's long-lasting impact. "This is the sort of contradiction that all Latinos live with, and she embodied it and navigated both worlds successfully."
On the 23rd anniversary of Selena Quintanilla’s untimely passing, fans took to Twitter to remember the icon.
