Selena Gomez’s mom revealed the moment she knew her daughter would be a star
When you have a child, sometimes you have an intuition about how they’ll turn out. Back in the day, Selena Gomez’s mom knew Gomez was bound for stardom at a young age, and what can we say? Moms know best.
Mama Mandy Teefey recently opened up for an interview with The New York Times and talked about Gomez’s charisma and charm. It turns out that Teefey knew she was raising a star the second she decided to take Gomez, who was only six at the time, to one of her rehearsals.
While watching it all go down, Gomez came out of the experience with notes that only a seasoned professional would have. Hey, sometimes talent is just hereditary.
"She went to one of my rehearsals with me and sat through the whole thing, not moving," Teefey said. "On the way home, she was quiet, and then she goes, 'You know, Mom, that might be funnier if you did it this way.' And I thought, Oh, no. She’s going to be an actor."
And, act she did. In the very early 2000s, Gomez scored the role of Gianna on Barney and Friends. You probably watched it without realizing it was her. Around the Wizards of Waverly Place era, Teefey ended up serving as Gomez’s manager for a bit and helped her get further exposure in the industry.
Of course, when discussing Gomez’s earlier parts, that’s not including the multiple productions that Gomez tried to put on with the other neighborhood kids, according to Teefey.
Gomez has also gone beyond acting. While it’s what we know her best for, she’s quite the talented singer as well. We still have some of her hits, like “The Heart Wants What It Wants” and “Hands To Myself,” in our heads years after they were released.
We’re so happy that Teefey let her daughter tag along on that audition! Who knows what might have happened if Gomez ended up staying home that day?
