Selena Gomez’s new video is here, and it’s good for us

The video for Selena Gomez’s brand new single, “Good For You,” is here, and it’s 100% true to its name. It’s really good for us. The song actually dropped last week, but that version includes A$AP Rocky. He’s gone for the music video, and so are a majority of the song’s backing tracks. Instead, we’ve got a totally stripped down Gomez, and it’s unlike any other song we’ve had from her yet. This new soulful, slow-jam Gomez? We like it.

And can we just take a second and talk about Gomez’s music career? Because “Good For You” is nothing like her last single (with Zedd), “I Want You To Know.” And it’s also nothing like “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” orrrr going way back to the beginning, “Love You Like a Love Song.” This song, and accompanying video, is totally different, and a step away from her recent catchy pop tunes. There’s a reason for that, and it’s good reason, too.

“This song represents the confidence that I truly have inside of me,” Selena explained on New York’s Z100’s morning show, “I think it’s the vulnerable side that I’ve expressed, but it’s also the combination of just feeling myself. It’s good!”

Just good? We’re ready to label it as GREAT. If Selena’s inner confidence means more songs and videos like this, we’re on board. Check out the whole video below, because “Good For You” is nabbing a coveted spot on our Summer playlist.
