Selena Gomez’s post-kidney transplant bikini pics reinforce that scars are beautiful
Scars are a lot like badges of honor — a beautiful reminder of where we’ve been and what we’ve overcome. That’s why we’re so glad that Selena Gomez isn’t hiding the scars from her 2017 kidney transplant. As most readers know, Gomez underwent the life-saving procedure out of the public eye, later revealing her empowering story after she and donor Francia Raisa had recovered.
In an interview with Today, Gomez and Raisa revealed that the surgery had a severe complication. “It was a six-hour surgery that they had to do on me, and the normal kidney process is actually two hours,” Gomez said. “Apparently one of the arteries had flipped. I’m very thankful that there are people who know what to do in that situation.”
While Gomez had already shown the world one of her scars when initially announcing that she had undergone surgery, she recently revealed another scar while vacationing with friends off the coast of Australia.
The singer was seen basking in the sun in a red and black bikini, laughing, and relaxing. According to Cosmopolitan, the scar, located on her thigh, is likely where surgeons removed her femoral vein in order to build an arterial connection with Raisa’s kidney. It’s also a solid reminder of just how much both Gomez and Raisa went through during the process.
Needless to say, we’re in awe of Gomez’s strength, and we’re thanking her for the reminder that scars are beautiful. You can see the pictures of Gomez in Australia here.
