Selena Gomez penned a beautiful love letter to the LGBTQ community

As part of a new initiative by Billboard magazine to celebrate Pride month, Selena Gomez has written a love letter to the LGBTQ community, and it’s so darn beautiful.
The star joins the likes of Céline Dion, Chrsitina Aguilera, Kelly Clarksin, Adam Lamebert, and Britney Spears — who actually hand wrote her letter — who have taken part in Billboard‘s celebration, and we have to say that reading all these love letters has made us pretty emotional.
In her letter, Selena spoke about how it was her mom who first introduced her to the LGBTQ community.
"I remember as a young child going to brunch on Sundays with my mom and her group of friends. I had no idea they were all gay as I didn’t even comprehend what that meant at the time," she wrote. "All I knew is that I loved being surrounded by these kind, fun and loving friends my mother had around her."
SelGo said that, in fact, it was her mom, Mandy Teefey, who taught her about accepting those who were different from yourself, noting, “I definitely give credit to her for raising me in an environment that was incredibly open-minded and non-judgmental.”
Indeed, the “Bad Liar” singer opened up about how on her 16th birthday party, her mom had booked a fabulous drag queen performer to sing her favourite song. Aww!
That wasn’t all that Selena had to say, however. She also opened up about working with her songwriting collaborator, Justin Tranter, who also penned a letter for Billboard.
"My co-writer Justin Tranter couldn’t believe I had never seen the Madonna documentary Truth or Dare and so while we were in Mexico he sat me down to watch it with him. I loved it and was especially struck by how groundbreaking it was for the gay rights movement and how far LGBTQ rights have come in my lifetime," she explained. "There is still a significant amount of work to do and I look forward to the day when a person is never judged, discriminated or feared for their sexuality."
Meanwhile, Selena Gomez recently opened up about the meaning behind her latest hit “Bad Liar,” which was also co-written by Tranter and Julia Michaels.
The star said that the song, which features a sample from The Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer,” was about that first crush feeling, and how when you first start dating you can’t help but obsess a little.

We have to say, we absolutely ADORE what Selena Gomez, along with all those that took part in Billboards Pride celebration, has to say. And she’s right, there is still some work that needs to be done, especially when the rights of LGBTQ individuals are under scrutiny and threat both at home and overseas. So let’s use Pride this year to send a message that Love Trumps Hate.
