Selena Gomez and Orlando Bloom are friends (yes, there are nicknames)

There’s something fun about finding out when two celebrities are friends IRL. Not just red carpet friendly, but real actual friends who spend time together and remember each others’ birthdays. Take, for example, Selena Gomez and Orlando Bloom. Did you have any idea the two were good friends? She even has a cute nickname for him: Orly.

The two have been spotted hanging out a few times over the past yew years. Of course, every time it happens, rumors of romance fly. Orlando is 16 years older than Selena — not a huuuge age difference, but one that raises a few eyebrows. But sources always claim the two are just good friends, and have been for a long time. We had no idea until Selena posted this pic on Instagram with a sweet message wishing the actor a happy birthday.

The snap shows a Polaroid picture of Selena, seemingly taken that same night. From the looks of things, it was taken at a nice dinner. Were the two dining together to celebrate Orly’s birthday? Who else was invited? And who has that pic of Selena now?

The duo do have a history — but not the good kind. A few years ago, Selena’s on-again-off-again-on-again-off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber started getting pretty close with Miranda Kerr, Orlando Bloom’s then-wife. Things escalated when the two got into a fight and Orlando threw a punch at the Biebs, but nothing serious happened. Needless to say, Orlando and Selena might not be dating, but their friendship is not without its past friction.

Naturally, we’re dying to know what Orlando’s nickname for Selena is. Sel? Gomez?
