Selena Gomez opened up about why she left The Scene, and it actually makes sense
She’s now one of the biggest solo artists around, but Selena Gomez has just opened up about dropping her band The Scene.
In the last few months, the singer dropped her summer bop “Bad Liar” along with its unexpected video, and is now prepping for the release of the follow-up track “Fetish,” which is slated for release on Thursday (July 13th).
If that wasn’t enough, the star — who is currently the most followed person on Instagram — also executive produced Netflix’s breakout show 13 Reasons Why, which just started filming its second season.

While her solo efforts have taken off, many of you might still remember that she once fronted a band, The Scene.
As Selena Gomez and the Scene, the singer released some pretty great songs, like “Naturally,” and the brilliant “Love You Like a Love Song.” Her relationship with The Scene came to an end, however, in 2012 when she announced that she had parted ways with her former band.
“My band and I are going our separate ways for a while,” she wrote in a Facebook post at the time. “This year is all about films and acting and I want my band to play music wherever with whoever. We will be back but it will be a good while. I love them and I love you guys.”

Well, in a new Q&A with Ask Anything Chat, Gomez has opened up about why the band parted ways.
“That to me was a very specific time in my life,” she said. “I think if you’re 14, 15, 16 and you’re trying to sing about situations in life that you haven’t experienced, I don’t really know if that qualifies you as an artist, if I’m being honest with you.”
This makes sense. While her music then was memorable, we imagine it must have been hard not really relating to the songs being written. However, Selena said that it was all part of her artistic growth.
“It helped me to have people who were older around me that helped guide me, and inspired me and pushed me,” she explained. “And there was a moment when I felt like I could do it and I wanted to try it on my own.”
She did have this to say about her former band: “They’re great guys.”

We’re glad that Selena has found a place where she feels like, creatively, she can step out on her own and express herself in the way that she wants to, and in a way that she can relate to.
