Selena Gomez made her Instagram account public again after going private for 24 hours

We’re not gonna lie — we thought the worst about Selena’s Instagram fate. But just 24 hours after Selena Gomez made her Instagram account private, she publicly graced our feeds again. Phew!

But now fans are wondering why Gomez, who is the most-followed person on Instagram, would go private in the first place. The “Wolves” singer went incognito on December 5th after reportedly posting a cryptic screenshot from her recent interview with Billboard.

Gomez received blowback from fans after her Billboard interview was published on November 30th. Fans were disappointed by her explanation (or lack thereof) for working with Woody Allen on his most recent film amidst the current flood of sexual misconduct allegations against powerful men (Allen was infamously accused of molesting Mia Farrow’s daughter, Dylan Farrow).

But Gomez’s mysterious and angry post was not a response to the Woody Allen discussion. Instead, the singer was seemingly upset about a portion of the article in which author Brooke Mazurek describes a large teddy bear sitting in Gomez’s kitchen.

Mazurek noted that the "five-foot teddy bear" didn't quite fit in amongst "the trio of armchairs nestled in the inviting, marble-accented nook." Gomez supposedly said, "I know, I know, It was a gift, and at first I thought, 'This is so ridiculous, I can’t wait until I give it away to another person.'" Mazurek wrote that Gomez "hasn’t let go of it — yet."

Shortly before changing her privacy settings, Gomez posted a screenshot of the teddy bear paragraph on her Instagram Story and wrote,

"Never will I let another human guess my words ever again. Or invite them into my home. That is so hurtful. The most ‘ridiculous’ part of that is no one knowing my heart when I say things."

Her followers are admittedly finding it odd that Gomez reacted to the story five days after it was published. It’s also strange that Gomez reacted so strongly after she accepted Billboard’s Woman of the Year award at the Billboard Music Awards on November 30th. Gomez tweeted the magazine on December 1st to thank them.

We can only speculate, but it seems likely something must have happened behind-the-scenes between December 5th and 6th. Perhaps whoever gave her the bear was offended that she called it “ridiculous.” But honestly, we may never know what went down in those 24 private hours.

Despite the mysterious drama, we’re just glad our girl is back on public.
