Selena Gomez Just Overthrew Kylie Jenner as Instagram’s Most Followed Woman

Her follower count grows amidst rumored eyebrow feud with Jenner and Hailey Bieber.

Selena Gomez is taking back the throne.

On Wednesday night, celebrity fan account PopFaction reported that Gomez had reclaimed her title as the most followed woman on Instagram with 380,644,778 followers. The highly coveted position was formerly held by Kylie Jenner, who amassed 380,425,729 followers.

In 2019, Gomez was crowned Instagram’s most followed woman before passing the baton over to fellow child actor Ariana Grande, following the release of her albums thank u, next and Positions. According to Paper magazine, Grande was later dethroned by Jenner in January 2022 when she became the first woman to ever hit 300 million followers on Instagram.

As of Thursday morning, Gomez’s account has accrued over 381 million followers, officially making her number one… again.

Over the course of her comeback journey, Gomez has taken several breaks from social media to better her mental health. In 2022, she revealed on Good Morning America that she was returning to Instagram after taking a four-year hiatus from the app.

“It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people,” Gomez said of her social media break.

In the spirit of protecting her mental health, the former Disney Channel star now outsources all her social media accounts, particularly Instagram, to an assistant.

“People can call me ugly or stupid and I’m like, ‘Whatever.’ But these people get detailed. They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety… I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time,” she explained of her decision to Vanity Fair.

With a filtering system in place, Gomez still creates all her own content that is posted by an assistant. She also has someone who skims her comments section for only positive, uplifting responses.

However, sometimes drama still manages to slip through the cracks.

Amidst yesterday’s follower count frenzy, it was rumored that Jenner and Gomez’s on-again, off-again arch nemesis Hailey Bieber, were throwing shade at the “My Mind & Me” singer on Instagram.

Earlier in the day, Gomez went on her Instagram Story to show fans she “accidentally laminated her brows too much.” No one thought anything of it until Jenner shared a selfie with “this was an accident” on her eyebrows on her Story. In the next slide, Jenner posted a screenshot of her and Bieber FaceTiming and it’s a closeup of their eyebrows.

TikToker Nuha called Jenner and Bieber out for “shading Selena Gomez” and being “very, very, very childish.”

Jenner fired back writing, “this is reaching, no shade towards selena ever and i didn’t see her eyebrow posts! u guys are making something out of nothing. this is silly.”

Gomez doubled down on Jenner’s remarks commenting, “Agreed @kyliejenne. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”

Apparently it was just a rough day for everyone’s eyebrows!
