Selena Gomez revealed she’s been recovering from a kidney transplant
Selena Gomez has been killing it on the music charts this summer with her singles, “Bad Liar” and “Fetish.” But fans have noticed that the pop sensation hasn’t been doing much self-promotion. That’s because Gomez had a kidney transplant this summer and has been in recovery for the past few months.
Gomez opened up to fans and followers on Instagram, stating that doctors told her she needed to have a kidney transplant to improve her overall health.
"So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering," Gomez wrote in an Instagram caption. "I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you."
The singer received her new kidney from her friend and Secret Life of the American Teenager actress, Francia Raisa. Raisa has called Gomez her “forever friend” in a past Instagram caption. And now with the bond these two share, that sentiment will stay true for the duration of their lifetimes.
"There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa," Gomez wrote in the Instagram post. "She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis."

Gomez thanked her team of doctors and her family for helping her through the process. She tells followers that Lupus is still very misunderstood and directed readers to the Lupus Research Alliance website.
Lupus has been a part of Gomez’s life since 2015, and she has undergone numerous treatments and procedures since that time to help alleviate her symptoms. We’re glad Gomez’s kidney transplant went well and we’re sending so many good thoughts her way as she continues to recover.
