Selena Gomez opened up about her harmful Instagram addiction

Even though Instagram hasn’t really been around that long, it’s becoming hard to remember a time when we weren’t compulsively scrolling through our feeds. In her new Vogue interview, Selena Gomez talks about Instagram fatigue, and we TOTALLY get where she’s coming from.

She’s the queen of Instagram with 113 million followers(!), so we can only imagine the overwhelming number of messages and comments she must receive on an hourly basis. Not to mention the pressure of constantly receiving (or not receiving) the approval of all those devoted fans.

However, Gomez revealed that she now takes a backseat approach to her Insta account, having an assistant manage everything that goes up (she no longer has the app on her phone, or even knows the password).

"As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out," she said in the interview. "It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to. I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about. I always end up feeling like shit when I look at Instagram. Which is why I’m kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit."

Okay, this is SO relatable, and Gomez is articulating feelings so many of us have felt at one point or another in our love-hate relationship with social media. In fact, a few other of our favorite celebs have taken a similar route with their accounts (Ed Sheeran and Anne Hathaway, to name just a few).

In a time when social media can feel all-consuming, we are all about taking some time to be more present in our actual lives.

Gomez’s latest post are simple (and stunning) photos from the Vogue cover shoot.

And the interview itself is a must-read btws. She talks honestly about entering rehab for her health issues, her childhood in Texas, and life as a Disney star.

Just don’t ghost for too long, Selena! We totally respect your privacy, but always love hearing from you.
