Selena Gomez is apparently seeking treatment following an emotional breakdown, and we hope she’s okay
Singer and actress Selena Gomez has always been open about her struggles with mental health, and now it appears that Gomez is currently seeking treatment after suffering an emotional breakdown. According to People.com, Gomez was reportedly hospitalized twice within the last few weeks due to a low white blood cell count, a side effect of her 2017 kidney transplant surgery.
The site reported that Gomez had a panic attack during her second hospital stay, which prompted her to seek emotional and mental support. “She has had a tough few weeks and the panic attack in the hospital was the tipping point,” one source said.
The source continued, "She realized she needed to seek additional help for her ongoing emotional issues. She’s surrounded by close family and has a lot of support. She’s doing better now and is seeking treatment on the East Coast."
Gomez has previously opened up about her use of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a method used to build up a person’s confidence while giving them skills to strike down reoccurring negative thoughts. Patients work on shifting emotions, attaining self-worth, and pain management.
On September 23rd, Gomez told her Instagram followers that she would be taking a break from social media.
"Update: taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember — negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings," Gomez wrote in her caption.
We’re glad Selena is prioritizing her physical and mental health and, moreover, we hope she’s doing okay. We’re sending a big hug your way, lady.
