This is what Selena Gomez’s dark “Hands to Myself” video is REALLY about
When we heard Selena Gomez’s new hit single “Hands to Myself,” we couldn’t stop dancing. It’s fun, it’s sexy, and it makes us feel good about ourselves. And although the track is upbeat and playful, Gomez took the video in a much darker direction than we expected.
The video features two versions of Gomez. In one reality, Gomez is a stalker who has broken into her celebrity obsession’s home. The second version is Gomez as an actress. So, both versions of Selena aren’t actually with the actor that we might think that she is. It’s complicated and slightly confusing, but so, so entertaining.
In the behind the scenes breakdown of the video, Gomez explains the intention behind the video, and why for a song about love, no one actually ended up in a loving relationship.
“You get to see these images of what people think love is. It’s theatrical, it’s movie-like. And all of that you end up seeing ends up being a false reality on both ends. That’s what I wanted it to feel like.”
Well, since Selena’s official video feels a little harder to dance to considering its dark nature, at least we have the Victorias Secret lip syncing version to make the song feel fun again!
