Selena Gomez executive produced one of the first movies coming back to theaters—watch the trailer now
In the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a trip to the movies might feel like a relic of the past, but Selena Gomez herself is testing the waters about getting our butts in cinemas this summer. The trailer for The Broken Hearts Gallery has just dropped, and aside from Gomez serving as an executive producer, the cast is filled with some of our favorite up-and-comers.
The Broken Hearts Gallery is Gomez’s first big-screen producing venture, though she has already served as an executive producer on two Netflix series: 13 Reasons Why and Living Undocumented. The movie is scheduled for July 17th, and it looks like the relatable rom-com we’re always stoked for.
The movie stars Geraldine Viswanathan (from Blockers and Bad Education) as Lucy, a lovelorn twenty-something trying to get over her ex by putting her tangible memories of him into an art gallery called the Broken Hearts Gallery. Word spreads about her pop-up space, seemingly giving Lucy a chance at a fresh start. Along the way, she meets Nick, played by Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery—clearly in a much different role than Mind Flayer-possessed Billy.

Of course, the release date is subject to change due to the pandemic (and it already has a few times). Gomez talked about this in a statement with Deadline.
“I understand people’s concerns regarding returning to activities we all loved prior to COVID-19,” she said. “I hope everyone will listen to scientists’ recommendations and consider others’ health and safety while enjoying the movie theater experience.”
But we’re low-key thrilled to check the film out once it’s safe to do so. Aside from the killer cast, the film serves as writer Natalie Krinsky’s directorial debut.
“Hearing from more female writers and directors is very much needed. Natalie is a wonderful talent, and I am happy to be a part of her debut film,” Gomez told Deadline.
