Selena Gomez debuted a retro bob in her triumphant return to the AMAs
In addition to some killer performances, the 2019 American Music Awards were a hotbed of incredible fashion and beauty moments. And while we’re over here wondering where Lizzo got her teeny tiny handbag, we’re also obsessing over the ’90s-inspired bob Selena Gomez rocked on the red carpet.
Last night, November 24th, the “Lose You to Love Me” singer hit the AMAs red carpet for the first time since 2017. Unsurprisingly, Gomez’s look was totally worthy of a triumphant comeback. She accessorized her lime-green Versace mini dress with a center-parted, shoulder-grazing bob and face-framing highlights. (Can we also talk about those two diamond necklaces she’s wearing?)
Gomez posted a carousel on Instagram last night to express gratitude for her fans, supporters, and the genius glam squad behind her new look.
“Feels good to be back. Thank you to my entire team and to my fans that stand by me. All of this is for you and because of you. excited for this chapter ?,” she captioned the post.
The retro bob is a pretty stark change from the ultra-long waves Gomez has been wearing recently. But she’s joining celebs like Bella Hadid, Gwen Stefani, and Jessica Alba, all of whom are rocking the chop for winter.
Later, Gomez’s hairstylist Marissa Marino restyled the singer’s sleek bob into tousled waves for her “Lose You to Love Me” performance. Makeup artist Hung Vanngo also swapped out the tonal, ’90s-esque makeup he created for her red carpet look for a stage-worthy, green glitter shadow. We’re definitely recreating this look for New Year’s Eve.
Before she debuted her new bob haircut, Gomez showed off a more permanent style update: a brand-new thigh tattoo, courtesy of celebrity-favorite tattoo artist Bang Bang.
Gomez points to her new ink (her 14th!) in a collection of behind-the-scenes Polaroids she posted on Instagram. The black-and-grey tattoo depicts a pair of praying hands clasping rosary beads.
Gomez’s highly anticipated new album, SG2, drops on January 10th. Honestly, we’re just as excited for all the gorgeous looks Gomez will rock during her press tour as we are for the music.
