Selena Gomez’s Beauty Evolution, From Her Disney Days to Now

In celebration of Selena Gomez's birthday on July 22nd, we look back at her beauty and fashion evolution through the years.

Congratulations are in order for Selena Gomez. Today, July 22nd, she celebrates her 28th birthday. Though the pandemic may be slightly getting in the way of the festivities, there’s still plenty to celebrate. Not only is she the founder of her own beauty line Rare Beauty coming out this summer, but she also executive produced the movie The Broken Hearts Gallery, which came out on July 17th. Over the years, with every big move the star has made, we’ve witnessed her beauty and style evolve at the same time. And if one thing is clear, her makeup and fashion choices get better and better with time.

From ultra glossy lips in the early aughts, to sexy, smoky eyes now, to going blonde for the first time, Gomez continues to surprise us. We wanted to see just how much her look has changed since Wizards of Waverly Place, so we rounded some of her favorite beauty moments. Keep scrolling for a Gomez-sponsored trip down memory lane along with some great looks to bookmark for inspiration.

Gomez’s New Year’s Eve look is so 2009. Her pale lip and dark smoky eye give us Avril Lavigne vibes.

We love the pop of color on her lips at the Unicef Ball. The side-swept, curly hair was a huge 2009 trend.

2010

Gomez made an appearance on the Today Show in 2010. She kept her makeup natural by adding a nude gloss, frosty shadow, and a touch of blush. Her hair was just as laid-back.

Gomez performed in London with a dark, dramatic eye that was reminiscent of England’s famous ’60s mod style.

Her goth glam makeup at the Jingle Ball is one of the singer’s more daring looks. It has a bit of a Spanish flair mixed with a Chicago feel. Velma Kelly anyone?

2014

We stan a monochromatic queen. Gomez hit the Met Ball red carpet with soft burgundy makeup. From her eyes to her lips, her look complemented her outfit perfectly.

Gomez paired a dark eye (almost rock ‘n’ roll style) with a muted, natural lip.

Spotted on the street wearing a hot pink number, Gomez matched her outfit to her lipstick with this fun look. We love her messy pony, too.

This American Music Awards look is one of our favorites. Gomez kept her makeup to a minimum, wearing a nude lip and natural lashes. Her dazzling red gown made this a Cinderella moment.

2017

Gomez got a little sultry at the British Fashion Awards with dark lipstick and natural-looking eye makeup (except for the big lashes). We were living for her blonde hair, too.

2017

Gomez opted for a retro look for her “Bad Liar” music video. From the beehive hair to the dramatic lashes, her makeup had a vintage glam to it.

2018

Spotted at the Hotel Transylvania 3 premiere, Gomez looked like an actual ray of sunshine in this ethereal look that reminds us of her teenage years.

2019

Lime green is a bold color choice for the red carpet, but with toned-down makeup and an ultra-sleek symmetrical bob, Gomez gave it a timeless and elegant twist.

2019

After working it for the cameras on the red carpet, Gomez swapped her style to perform and rocked the wet-look with shimmery waves and sparkly eyeshadow.

2020

Of course Gomez (and her skilled hair and makeup team) pulled together a great look for the 2020 Hollywood Beauty Awards. She shined in neutral makeup with a peachy-red lip and blush to match. Her curtain bangs and face-framing tendrils make the look extra charming.

2020

Of course we also can’t forget this pre-quarantine glam moment when Gomez showed off some bouncy curls accompanied by piecy bangs.
