Selena and Justin are battling it out on Instagram, because being friends with your ex is so hard
There are some celeb breakups that leave a scar on the pop culture heart, and Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber’s end was one such breakup. We want to not care, but we find it *totally* impossible to look away. After all, it’s always sad when two people who clearly once cared about each other have a nasty breakup, and seeing these two duel it out in the public eye pretty much sucks. I mean, I guess this is why so many people don’t try to stay friends with their exes — it’s really not easy.
Everything started when Bieber complained about hate he was getting for his new bae, Sofia Richie.
“I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand,” Bieber wrote. “If you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.”
He was over people comparing Richie to Selena, and Jelena fans who refuse to back down.
Selena commented on the insta, and all hell broke loose.
“If you can’t handle the hate,” she wrote. “Then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol. It should be special between you two only. Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you.”

Is this a nice comment, or a mean one? A little bit of both? All we know is that she’s so over all of this.
Justin, naturally, took offense to the comment from his ex.
“It’s funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love.” He wrote. He followed up, saying, ““I’m not one for anyone receiving hate. Hope all can be kind to my friends and each other. And yes I love my Beliebers.”

Welp. There you have it, folks.
It’s about as awkward as it gets to see it all play out right on Instagram.
After all, the couple *was* pretty cute, and we don’t doubt that they did sincerely care for each other once.
Like, they were once our #RelationshipGoals.
Our hearts are a little achey for them both.
It’s actually really sad.
We just hope they don’t look back on this and regret putting it all out there.
