As Seen on TV: ‘House of Cards’ Cufflinks
We’re back with a remake from another one of our favorite TV shows! This would be a killer (belated) gift for Dad, or a fun treat for a boyfriend/hubby/male bestie. Last time, we DIY’ed Joan Holloway’s pen necklace from Mad Men and today we’re visiting Kevin Spacey in DC on House of Cards. Time to binge watch!!
When Netflix added House of Cards to its original TV show slate, I just couldn’t resist. I started off watching the pilot and then got hooked. I totally fell into a binge watching frenzy, finishing the entire season in a day. I must say that it made me totally want to move to DC to work in the craziness/underbelly/sketchiness/cutthroat-ness/all of the above of government. (Why didn’t I go to GW or American University??) There’s more scandal here than Scandal!! (OK, well maybe not that much…)
After seeing the pair of monogrammed cufflinks that Spacey was gifted by his TV wifey, Robin Wright, I knew there was a lower budge version to make. Hello Scrabble!!
Here’s a rundown of the supplies you’ll need:
1. Tacky Glue – (I used Aleene’s “Turbo Tacky Glue” – it’s got some serious hold power! Snag this at your local craft store.)
2. Cufflink blanks (I ordered a dozen on Amazon – will have plenty for extra gifts!)
3. Scrabble pieces (if you can find one at a garage sale or at Goodwill, awesome! Otherwise snag a batch of letters on Amazon or ebay!)
This project literally couldn’t be any easier. First, add a dab of tacky glue to the back of the cufflink blank.
Put your letter tile on top of the glued blank, push in place, and let dry.
Repeat the previous step to complete both cufflinks and let dry overnight.
How about that for some monogrammed action, Kev?
Taking the essence of the links from House of Cards, you can DIY dad or the boyfriend or the other family member/friend/pal/etc. a pair of monogrammed cufflinks of their own.
You most definitely won’t have to reform your finances to fund these cufflinks. Hey-OH!!! #politicaljoke
