That secret Will Ferrell/Kristen Wiig Lifetime movie? It’s real.
For the last two months, there’s been something fishy going on re: a top-secret Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig movie. First, it was an April Fool’s news item, then it was a real movie, then it wasn’t a movie. This movie’s got enough drama to make it feel like a Lifetime Movie — which is fitting, since this secret Ferrell and Wiig movie is a Lifetime Movie. And this time it seems officially official. The top-secret Ferrell/Wiig Lifetime Movie is back on. We hope.
So, what’s the long story behind this? Coming from two of the funniest people on the planet, Ferrell and Wiig, it’s hard to figure out exactly what’s true, and what’s a long elaborate joke. But we’ll tell you what we know. As The Hollywood Reporter first reported, Ferrel is a HUGE fan of Lifetime Movies, and has always wanted to be a part of one himself. He teamed up with Wiig to make a very serious semi-parody Lifetime Movie titled, A Deadly Adoption. It was made to celebrate Lifetime’s 25 years of original movies, and it was supposed to be a secret. Then on April 1st (April Fool’s Day), news of the movie was leaked, and everyone freaked out because, let’s be real, A Deadly Adoption sounds like the best movie ever made for television.
Ferrell and Wiig were not happy their secret movie was no longer a secret, and issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly saying that the project had been scrapped and would never see the light of day. As Ferrell said in a statement, “We are deeply disappointed that our planned top-secret project was made public.” Cue: Us crying.
Fast forward two months, and now a giant A Deadly Adoption billboard has appeared in Hollywood.
Does this mean that the movie’s back on? Does this mean that on June 20th, we’ll all be able to sit down and watch a “a campy, fun, contemporary wink at the genre” with Ferrell and Wiig playing parents caught in a deadly adoption? Can you even read that tagline? “The birth of a plan gone wrong.” I just gave it 15 Emmys in my mind. Wait but what about the fact that June 20th is a Saturday this year? Does that mean this is real? Now real? Help!
The whole situation makes me very nervous and I’m now convinced that I’m going to tune in on the 20th and find a double feature of Kicking & Screaming and Blades of Glory. Not that I still wouldn’t sit down and watch that, but I have NO IDEA why the top-secret movie was scrapped, and now it has a release date, and is it really happening? I just want to watch it, OK?? I love Lifetime Movies. I love the idea of Ferrell and Wiig being in a very serious parody of a Lifetime Movie. Like, a feature-length one.
Give the good people what they want, and let A Deadly Adoption be REAL. Because, it is, right? And it’s coming soon? Yes? Yes.
