FINALLY: Here’s what happened after that ‘Secret Life’ cliffhanger
The Secret Life of the American Teenager ended more than two years ago, but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped wondering what happened to its characters after the final episode. Sure, the finale sort of gave us closure on Amy (Shailene Woodley) and Ricky (Daren Kagasoff) — Amy moved to New York while Ricky and little John stayed behind to make all of us cry. The last scene showed the pair reading a bedtime story with this heartbreaking ending line: “And she lived happily ever after. And so will we.”
Yeah, that thing about time healing all wounds? Not so true in this case. There are so many lingering questions! I mean, if Amy, Ricky, and John get a happy ending, what about Ben or Jack or Grace? Where are Adrian and Omar? If wondering about these characters keeps you up at night, get ready for a good long sleep (finally), because Secret Life’s creator, Brenda Hampton recently sat down with MTV News to dish on everyone’s lives after the “happily ever after.”
According to Brenda, Amy never leaves New York — she doesn’t have to, because all her loved ones move to her. “After a couple of years, Ricky and John moved to New York, along with George, Amy’s dad and John’s grandpa,” Brenda revealed. “The cross-country travel while taking on college was just too stressful for Amy, but no one wanted to see her abandon her dreams so everyone came to her.” But do Amy and Ricky get back together? Well, Brenda admitted that Amy hooks up with Ben three times before understanding that they aren’t right for each other. However, the spark didn’t catch when the two got physical.
Okay, yeah. Great. BUT DO AMY AND RICKY GET BACK TOGETHER? Brenda spilled all the deets on our other favorite characters.
BUT. DID. AMY. AND. RICKY. GET. BACK. TOGETHER?
Yes! And they got married! Their life as husband and wife sounds amazing. “Amy’s love of the arts led her to a career in documentary films,” said Brenda. “Ricky does have a knack for business and he and Leo are in the midst of creating a high end fast food chain.”
Obviously, we all want to see this Not-So Secret Life of a Former American Teenager play out. Unfortunately, Brenda doesn’t see a reunion episode happening anytime soon, mostly because the show’s actors have gone off to super successful careers (here’s looking at you, Shailene). In case there’s an informal poll happening, though, we would totally tune in to a new episode. Or a handful of episodes. Or two more seasons.
