Searching for a Non-Cheesy Mother’s Day Card?
There’s no shame in going the traditional route and sending your mom a mass-produced greeting card for Mother’s Day. It’s easy, inexpensive and time efficient. However, $671 million is spent on Mother’s Day cards annually, so the likelihood of a few (or 100,000) other moms receiving the same exact card is pretty high. If you’re looking to be a little more unique and creative this year, and are in search of a non-cheesy Mother’s Day card that expresses your love, gratitude and appreciation for your mom, then search no further. I’ve done some investigating and found five pretty great options for you to make your card your own. And knowing your mom, she will appreciate your creativity (I don’t actually know your mom, but if her name is mom, it’s likely she will appreciate anything you do for her).
1. Photo cards
Your mom probably loves photos of you, photos of you and her together, photos of your kids, your dogs… really anything that has to do with you. Cardstore.com has a big selection of cool and classy cards that your mom will love. Promise.
2. Funny cards
If your mom loves laughing and moderately inappropriate humor, check out someecards. You can shop their store or send an e-card for free. Ecards are obviously less personable, but the hilariousness of the cards make up for it.
3. Photo book
Kodak and iPhoto make it really easy to put together a photo book. Idea: on each page, list an accomplishment you’ve had in your life, and add pictures to go along with it. If you don’t have any pictures of you accomplishing your accomplishment, throw in any pictures of yourself your mom would like to see (and keep forever). Include a thank you note to your mom for helping you become as awesome as you are.
4. Be a human card
If you don’t live in the same state as your mom, hop on a plane and surprise her. She will probably cry, and you probably will too. I might cry just thinking about you guys crying. A card won’t be necessary, but money for a plane ticket will be. So, if money’s tight, maybe skip to number 5 for now.
5. Hand make your own card
If you want your mom to extra love you, make her a card with your hands. She made those hands, so put them to good use for her. Paper Source is a great source for paper. Effort and thoughtfulness is a successful way to show your mom how much you love her and how much you should now be in first place for favorite child.
Side note: These ideas aren’t just for the moms who gave birth to us. They are good for mother-in-laws, grandmothers, godmothers, sisters, aunts, friends, mentors or anyone in your life who is a mom or a mother mother figure. Everyone loves cards (but not everyone likes surprise visits, so maybe know your audience).
