Sean Penn wanted to name his son after his favorite food
Food: what’s not to love? There are few things better than sitting down to enjoy a nice big helping of your fave food, whether it be a big red lobster, a bowl of ice cream, or a cheesy slice of pizza. However, Sean Penn took his love for food to a whole new level after he almost named his son in honor of his carnivorous appetite.
Speaking with Interview yesterday, Sean’s son, Hopper Penn, opened up about acting, Los Angeles, and his unique first name. Where did “Hopper” come from, anyway? However, it turns out he was named after actor, filmmaker, and photographer Dennis Hopper.
“It has to do with Dennis Hopper; my dad was friendly with him and idolized him,” he told Interview. “. . . What they told me is that I hopped in her stomach, I didn’t kick, so they went with that.”
Hopper got really lucky compared to what he could have been named. . . Steak. Yes, seriously.
“My dad wanted to name me Steak, the food, because he loves it so much,” he said. “But my mom was never going to go for it.” His mom, of course, is House of Cards‘ resident badass Robin Wright.
We hope you thank your mom every single day for that, Hopper.
