Just a seal surfing on a whale. NBD.

Yes, you read the title right. A seal surfed on a whale off the coast of New South Wales in Australia, and lucky for us, there are photographs of this glorious moment in nature.

In the interview below, photographer Robyn Malcolm explains how she came to catch this moment on film. She was in Eden, where a pod of humpback whales were feeding on schools of fish. But one fur seal was ready to catch a wave, and emerged from the water standing on a whale’s back!

And amazingly, this isn’t the first time it’s happened.

“The only other time was a seal trying to get away from a killer whale,” National Parks and Wildlife whale expert Geogg Ross told Brisbane Times, “The seal hopped on the back of the pectoral fins of a humpback whale.”

Hang ten, brave little seal.
