What you need to know about Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius
For those of us who have been mourning the loss of our childhood since finishing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows way back in 2007, the new play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a beacon of nostalgia-inducing hope. Buuuut… if you haven’t yet binge-read the play, don’t read ahead, because there are some spoilers below.
The play fast-forwards 19 years and follows the story of Harry Potter’s son Albus, who is in his third year at Hogwarts.
In a fateful plot twist, Albus has befriended Scorpius, the son of Harry’s arch-nemesis, Draco Malfoy. It turns out, Scorpius, who has been isolated for much of his childhood, is introverted, a bit strange, and eager for friendship.
While Draco was a tormented, at times truly mean character, it’s kind of awesome that his son is friends with Harry’s own kid and not doing this:
In a behind-the-scenes video about the play, actor Anthony Boyle said, “Scorpius, at the beginning, has grown up in isolation at the Malfoy Manor. [He] hasn’t really spoken to anyone who’s in his peer group. He’s just been alone with his books, reading about Harry Potter and Albus and all of these different people.”

The two characters bond over their relationships with their fathers and the tensions and frustrations they feel, as well as their experiences as Hogwarts outcasts.

We are so grateful for the infinite layers of complexity the new play adds to the Harry Potter canon, and are dying to see the play (and Scorpius) in person. false
