Scientists created a room that charges your phone for you, and we want to go there immediately

Wireless technology has grown by leaps and bounds lately, from earbuds to pacemakers and beyond. But if you’re like us, you’re still waiting for a much simpler invention. Most of us have to tether ourselves to a wall for half an hour if our phone’s battery needs a boost. (Because sadly, Business Insider says you can’t actually charge your phone with a corn dog.) Wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to rely on charger cords to keep using your electronics?

Fortunately, scientists at Disney – yes, Disney! – are on our side. And they just might have the answer. Prepare yourself, folks.

What if you could charge your phone simply by walking into a room?

We know! Shocking, right? Nonetheless, according to Teen Vogue, innovators at Disney have successfully created a model 16-by-16 foot room that can wirelessly charge lights, fans, and – you guessed it – phones.

The miraculous technology uses something called quasistatic cavity resonance, or QSCR. This can charge your phone by using the electrical currents already existing in a room. Basically, they use a complicated method of inducing the electricity which is, more or less, similar to how WiFi works.

The technology can also be used at a variety of scales – not just at normal room size, but in areas as small as a cabinet or as large as a warehouse. So no matter whether you live in a mansion or a tiny apartment, this could be the future for you!

The scientists are careful to note that they’re strictly following federal safety guidelines.

So you don’t need to worry about all that charge harming your body.

Unfortunately, the tech is still in its protoype stage, so you can’t ditch your charger cords just yet.

But we’ll keep our fingers crossed and hope we see much more of this awesome technology in the future!
