There’s been a school shooting in Maryland, and here’s what we know

We’ve just learned that there has been a school shooting in Maryland at Great Mills High School today, March 20th. The Maryland school is on lockdown, and there are reportedly several injuries, though that detail has not officially been confirmed by authorities. However, authorities have stated that the situation has been “contained.”

Great Mills student Jonathan Freese spoke to CNN, stating that his math class was in lockdown during the incident, noting, “I’m still a little shaken up.” Freese also noted that police were canvassing each classroom and escorting students out of the building.

Governor Larry Hogan tweeted that his office is “closely monitoring the situation at Great Mills High School,” noting that, “Maryland State Police is in touch with local law enforcement and ready to provide support. Our prayers are with students, school personnel, and first responders.”

Great Mills High School is located in Great Mills, Maryland, about 60 miles from Washington D.C. There is currently no information about the shooter. This latest incident comes just over a month after 17 people lost their lives during a school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Florida on February 14th.

More to come.
