A school receptionist sang a stunning version of “At Last” over the PA to kick off summer break, is officially today’s hero
In our grade school days, we used to live for the dismissal announcement, especially on the last day of school before summer break. But for one high school in North Carolina, this year’s summer break announcement came over the PA system with a seasonally themed rendition of Etta James’ classic song “At Last” — sung by a receptionist who has an amazing voice.
Last week, Regina Ballard took to the PA system to sing the tune, changing the lyrics to fit the theme of the last day of school. It’s pretty cool that she sang for everyone in the first place, but once you hear her song, you’ll be completely blown away by how good she sounds. And we don’t say this lightly, because doing a legend like Etta James justice is no easy task. Somehow, though, Ballard made it happen.
According to what the receptionist told USA Today, she sang the song on a day when she thought not many people would be present (graduation had already happened, after all). But now, she’s ended up with a way bigger audience than she ever could have bargained for — her video on Facebook has already garnered over 881,000 views.
Once you see the video, it’s easy to see why people are so obsessed. Ballard is incredibly talented. Why didn’t this ever happen on our PA systems in school?
“I love my job, y’all, but I look forward to summers when I can spend time with my grands & family, sooo…here it is…At Last,” she wrote in the post.
Ballard told the site that although she does sing at church, she doesn’t do this professionally, and that she’s looking forward to returning to school in August. This woman seems like an actual angel. How lucky are those students to have someone who cares about her job so much working at their school?
If Ballard ever wants to go pro, we’ll be listening. With a voice like that, who knows what the future could hold?
