11 scary(ish) Halloween outfits for chic people who hate costumes
While Halloween has the potential to be insanely fun, if you don’t like wearing costumes it can kind of be, well, the worst. Because if there’s one thing Halloween-lovers love to do, it’s go around talking about their costume and dishing on yours. Sigh.
Luckily, there are some solid scary(ish) Halloween outfits for chic people who hate costumes out there. They’ll make you look festive enough to keep the critics at bay, but won’t mean you’ll have to spend hours creating a costume or getting ready. Plus, they’ll make you look downright dignified.
Because let’s be real — there’s nothing worse than being miserable on a holiday when you’re at a party full of overly excited people wearing an outfit you hate. So without further ado, here are 11 low-maintenance, classy Halloween outfits for all us costume-haters.
1Blair Waldorf from “Gossip Girl”
Blair Waldorf was a complicated “villain.” She was really a softie deep down, but when you crossed her…that was some terrifying stuff. There are so many iconic Blair Waldorf looks to choose from. You could try out the Constance uniform (but might risk looking like a “sexy student”). We’d recommend your best silk pajamas, a box of macaroons, and an over-the-the top headband and go with Blair’s “in mourning/scheming from home” look. An old Blackberry to send a Gossip Girl blast will complete the look. If you have a bestie who won’t mind being your Dorota or Chuck Bass, you’ll be the Halloween Queen.
2Veronica Lodge from “Riverdale”
If only Blair and Veronica could meet — who would win? Riverdale costumes are likely going to be super popular this year, and one way to do it without actually dressing up at all is to go as Veronica. Her style is sort of preppy dark — choose any of her outfits, slap on a choker, and you’re good to go.
3Cruella de Vil from “101 Dalmations”
This doesn’t have to be as costume-y as it sounds. Throw on a slinky dress, a white faux fur coat, a red lip, and you’re good to go. If you want to turn it up for the costume contest, maybe get one of those long cigarette holders, but otherwise, you don’t have to do much.
4A simple Halloween-themed dress
While the most chic people out there might not adore themed clothing, there are some super cute Halloween fabrics out there. ModCloth has a whole section of fit and flare dresses or midi skirts and they’re actually super cute. This way, you skip the costume part but can still show your spooky spirit.
5Wednesday from “The Addams Family”
The best part about this one is you can you pull it off with just your fave LBD and some pigtail braids. If you don’t have a collared dress, don’t worry. You can throw a white button down under a black sweater and call it Halloween.
6A.D. from “Pretty Little Liars”
A might not have been fashion forward but at least they were always comfortable. You can go in full-on black hoodie, skinny jeans, and gloves or crazy British Spencer. The Hastings women always had great clothes.
7Bethenny Frankel from “Real Housewives Of New York”
Or any Real Housewives showstopper like Kelly Dodd or Teresa Giudice. Bethenny’s easy because you can wear jeans, ridiculously heeled boots, faux fur, and drink Skinny Girl vodka all night. Not a bad combo.
8Chuck Bass from “Gossip Girl”
Blair was bad sometimes. But Chuck Bass was, well, Chuck Bass. All you have to do is look dapper in a suit and a pastel bow tie. Plus, every time someone asks you who you are, you get to say, “I’m Chuck Bass.”
9Mellie Grant from “Scandal”
Mellie isn’t exactly scary, but when she doesn’t get what she wants she’s a force to be reckoned with. Throw on your best primary colors, coif your hair, and fill a mason jar with some “hooch” for effect. You’re all over this.
10Fiona Goode from “American Horror Story: Coven”
Fiona Goode’s look was classic — black on black on black. Can’t get any easier than that, right?
11Mia Wallace from “Pulp Fiction”
Uma Thurman’s Mia Wallace is perfect for the person who wants to keep things classy, yet casual. Some black (possibly cropped) pants and an oversized button down is all you need. It’s up to you whether you want to bare your bandeau bra under the shirt or not.
12(BONUS!) Rihanna from “Bitch Better Have My Money”
Nothing says fashion like Rihanna. You can choose any of the personas and looks from the video or just go with this now iconic performance look. Worst case, just wear your favorite clothes and carry a wine glass around all night and call yourself RiRi. Not a bad idea at all.
