Scarlett Johansson, the highest grossing actress in Hollywood, has ~this~ to say about the wage gap
You go girl! Actress Scarlett Johansson opens up about the wage gap in Hollywood after being named the highest grossing actress in 2016.
Johansson has been slaying it in the box office, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to keep quiet about the wage gap affected women all over, in every sort of industry.
As Marie Claire’s March cover star the Hail, Caesar! actress does get real about Hollywood and her newest title, and it’s so honest.
In December, the 32-year-old actress was named “Top Grossing Actor” in 2016 by Forbes. She won the titled based on the number of global ticket sales her films had.
With all of Johansson’s box office hits she brought in $1.2 billion globally, which is insane.
When asked about this major accomplishment, the Captain America: Civil War star was quick to point out that it doesn’t mean she earned that money for herself.
"Just because I’m the top-grossing actress of all time does not mean I’m the highest paid," Johansson told Marie Claire. "I've had to fight for everything that I have. It’s such a fickle and political industry."
The New York native has worked her butt off, starring in four films just last year, and two already ready for 2017.
She later opened up about the wage gap.
"Some people felt I should talk about my personal struggle in order to shed a spotlight on the greater issue. Maybe I’m being presumptuous, but I assumed it was obvious that women in all positions struggle for equality," the Sing actress said.
“It’s always an uphill battle and fight,” she continued. “My experience with my close female friends and family is that the struggle is real for everybody. Everyone has been discriminated against or harassed. Sexism is real.”
This is SO true and definitely hits home for women in every industry, not just the entertainment world. We totally agree with the actress on why she didn’t think she need to shed light on it, when it is SO obvious.
