“Scandal” and “HTGAWM” are planning a crossover, because it’s about time Kerry Washington and Viola Davis shared the screen
It feels as though this mashup should have happened a long time ago: Stars of Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder, Kerry Washington and Viola Davis, both hinted at a crossover via Instagram. Fans are in agreement that it’s about time. Because, hello, KERRY WASHINGTON AND VIOLA DAVIS.
Today, January 3rd, Kerry Washington posted a photo of herself dressed as her Scandal character, Olivia Pope. She’s seated on a bench within the HTGAWM set. Washington captioned the photo “Hey Ms @violadavis ❤️ check it out. This spot look familiar?! Where are you?”
An hour later, Davis posted a photo of herself on Instagram as her HTGAWM character, Annalise Keating, on the Scandal set. She responded, "Hey @KerryWashington, guess where I am?!"
Naturally, fans freaked out and crossed their fingers in hopes that this was all real. And thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long to get confirmation that the Scandal/HTGAWM crossover is actually in the works. Executive producer of both shows, Shonda Rhimes, tweeted a photo of the crossover script, in which we can clearly see Olivia Pope and Annalise Keating speaking to one another.
Rhimes called it #HowtoGetAwaywithScandal, and we like the sound of that.
People. It's happening. @petenowalk, you ready for this? #TGITCrossover #HowtoGetAwaywithScandal pic.twitter.com/laROhxbeu8

The shows will each have their own crossover episode, and their air dates/times have yet to be announced. Creator of HTGAWM, Pete Nowalk, said in a September 2014 interview that he imagined Olivia Pope and Annalise Keating existing “in completely different worlds.” He didn’t believe a crossover would ever happen.
But it looks like those worlds are finally colliding, and we couldn’t be more pleased.
Keep your eyes peeled for the special ABC TGIT event. It’s something you won’t want to miss.
