A mini Saved by the Bell is airing on Instagram TV, and let us explain what that means

Saved by the Bell got a 2018 upgrade: you can now watch a condensed version of the iconic ’90s sitcom on Instagram. In what we’ve just decided to call Saved by the Bell, the Instagram cut—the original episodes have been trimmed down to four-ish minutes and can be viewed on NBC’s IGTV page. These mini-episodes are almost like if Saved by the Bell was a web series or an extra long “previously on.”

According to E! News, each episode will follow the same story as the original, but in a more Instagram-friendly way, meaning—shorter, edited to fit a vertical screen, and with new animated graphics, texts, and pop-ups that appear throughout the episode. With so many ’80s and ’90s shows being rebooted, we wonder if this condensed version is a test-run for a potential remake?

You can watch full episodes of the series on Hulu and NBC.com, but we dig this new Instagram version too. There are currently five short episodes available to watch now on NBC’s official Instagram page. Check out a sneak peek below.

Saved by the Bell ran for five seasons from 1989 to 1993 and turned Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Dustin Diamond, Tiffani Thiessen, Elizabeth Berkley, Lark Voorhies, and Dennis Haskins into household names. The show even spawned two spinoff series and a TV movie. And the series continues to bubble up in the collective consciousness. Currently, there’s a pop-up diner in Los Angeles inspired by the show and Mark-Paul Gosselaar told Fox News in August that he was open to doing a reboot.
