Savannah Guthrie apologized after accidentally swearing on live TV, and TBH, it could have been worse
TV announcers are human too, guys. Case in point: Today host Savannah Guthrie swore on live TV on Wednesday, March 28th, when she didn’t realize her mic was on. It’s okay Savannah — it happens. In fact, we’re a little surprised it doesn’t happen to TV hosts more often, TBH.
The fateful moment happened as Guthrie was looking over her notes. She quietly exclaimed, “Oh shit,” and the sound was quickly cut on her mic. Twitter, of course, was there to capture it:
Guthrie tweeted about the moment shortly after the show ended to apologize for the gaffe.
"So sorry guys. Thanks for being kind and understanding. And guess it’s good thing I don’t wear a mic all day. #ohdarn"
Luckily, fans were extremely nice about the whole thing (because at the end of the day, the moment was relatable AF).
All in all, things could have been a lot worse (F-bomb, we’re looking at you), and we’re actually loving the fact that even esteemed morning television hosts have a “moment” every now and then.
Guthrie was also in the news recently for interviewing Stormy Daniel’s attorney, Michael Avenatt. The interview was especially notable because Guthrie refused to back down from key points while Avenatt clearly attempted to deflect.
Gunthrie has a law degree from Georgetown University (where she graduated magna cum laude) and eventually became a legal correspondent for NBC in 2007 before joining Today in 2011. Needless to say, we don’t think accidentally dropping a swear word is all that big a deal…especially since again, we’ve all been there once or twice.
