It’s Sarah Michelle Gellar’s birthday, and she’s seriously earned this tribute

Celebration is in order, friends, because it’s the inimitable Sarah Michelle Gellar’s birthday today, and she’s one star we’re more than happy to shower with our love. The incredible actress turns 40 on April 14th, and to honor her contributions to film, TV, and, well, humanity, we’ve put together this tribute to our #1 gal.

Whether you’ve loved her since Cruel Intentions or became a fan during the Scooby Doo years, keep scrolling to relive some of SMG’s most iconic roles and famous quotes. Happy Birthday, boo!

I Know What You Did Last Summer, 1997

In I Know What You Did Last Summer, SMG played beauty queen Helen Shivers, an aspiring actress who winds up involved in a murder.

"We should have a plan. Angela Lansbury always had a plan."

Scream 2, 1997

Continuing her run as a teen horror movie queen, Gellar played Cici Cooper in Scream 2, a sorority girl who winds up dead at the hands of Ghostface.

"'Drink with your brains.' That's our motto."

Simply Irresistible, 1999

SMG was simply irresistible in this quirky ’90s rom-com. She starred as Amanda Shelton, a magic power-wielding chef whose emotions dramatically changed the quality of her food.

"My friend Nolan told me this thing about men and sex, that they think about it 238 times a day and when they do they adjust their belts."

Cruel Intentions, 1999

Among her most iconic roles, SMG played sexually confident — and pure evil — prep school student Kathryn Merteuil in Cruel Intentions, intent on deflowering the headmaster’s daughter.

"I'm the Marcia fucking Brady of the Upper East Side and sometimes, I wanna kill myself. So there's your psychoanalysis, Dr. Freud."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 1996-2003

Perhaps the role she’s best known for, Gellar played the titular role of Buffy Summers in this classic, ass-kicking TV series.

"I’m the thing that monsters have nightmares about."

Scooby Doo, 2002 and 2004

After a slew of horror films and nearly a decade of slaying vampires, SMG took on a lighter role as Daphne Blake in the first and second Scooby Doo movies.

"Those creatures are taking over the world? That is so mean."

Ringer, 2011-2012

In this dark drama, Gellar played the role of good/bad twins Bridget Kelly and Siobhan Martin. When Siobhan disappears, Bridget takes over her life — and her secrets.

"That pedestal he puts me on, it's a long way to fall."

The Crazy Ones, 2013-2014

Starring alongside the great Robin Williams in this comedy, Gellar played the buttoned-up daughter, Sydney, to Williams’ quirky Simon.

"My dad forced me to take the week off. He said that if I showed up he authorized security to tase."

We love you, SMG! HBD!
