Sarah Michelle Gellar just wrote the sweetest note in honor of “Buffy’s” anniversary
Sarah Michelle Gellar is THE ’90s queen. She spooked us in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2, and was the perfect Queen Bee we loved to hate, Kathryn Merteuil, in Cruel Intentions (a role we’re still recovering from finding out she’ll be revising on the TV reboot). Oh, and she has been giving us relationship goals ever since she and her main squeeze, ’90s king Freddie Prinze, Jr., got married—almost 15 years ago now.
But SMG’s big breakout role was as badass protagonist Buffy Summers the monster-of-the-week ’90s teen drama we all know and love: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And though Gellar has had a journey full of career and personal wins since the show premiered in 1997, she’s still super grateful for the opportunities it gave her, as evidenced by the following photo posted to her Instagram and Facebook accounts today–on the 19th anniversary of BTVS’ pilot episode.
The photo’s caption reads, “19 years ago tonight, I got to introduce you to #buffyannesummers (and #mrpointy too) thank you for taking the incredible journey with me and continuing still. I am and forever will be #grateful.”
We’re grateful too. BTVS had so many wonderful things going for it–the writing, the supporting cast, the big bads, THE MUSICAL EPISODE–that for Gellar to have been a standout is saying something, and she absolutely was. It’s no wonder she has led a successful film career since. We can’t wait to see her back as Kathryn in the Cruel Intentions TV show. And hey, it’s not too much to ask for a BTVS reunion for its 20th anniversary…right?
