Sarah Jessica Parker’s Golden Globes look is totally a nod to Princess Leia

When it comes to bold red carpet fashion, few do it better and bigger than Sarah Jessica Parker. We expected her to choose a showstopping look at the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards, but as always, we weren’t quite sure exactly what she would wear for the red carpet.

We were super excited when we saw her arrive to the event wearing this gorgeous look:

She teased her look in two separate posts: one showcasing the details of her gown and the other a long-pan shot of her on the way to the awards show in the hotel hallway.

For the occasion, she seemed to pay tribute to the late Carrie Fisher with a braided updo (the actress wore a very similar braid in the Star Wars series). SJP offset her head-turning hairstyle with a white Vera Wang gown—with long-sleeves, cutout shoulders, and a low-cut neckline — similar to Leia’s white gown that she wears throughout A New Hope.

In an Instagram post just a week ago, SJP inscribed a picture of Carrie Fisher with the caption,

“RIP. And may the force be with you Carrie Fisher. X, SJ”.

Parker also paid tribute to Fisher’s mother Debbie Reynolds with a heartfelt image of her and Carrie as a young girl.

“The heart-rending losses in 2016 continue. RIP Ms. Debbie Reynolds. X, sj.”

It’s clear the Sex and the City actress has an immense amount of respect for them both. While it’s unclear whether the nod to the star princess was on PURPOSE (during her interview on the red carpet, SJP said that she was looking at a photo of her mom’s wedding look when describing what she wanted her hair stylist to do — but that the Princess Leia inspiration was probably subconscious because Carrie Fisher was such an amazing woman), we still love the whole outfit.

The star lost to Tracee Ellis Ross in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy category for her role in Divorce at the awards show, but we’ll see much more of her this awards season. Divorce is also back for more episodes later this year.
