Sarah Hyland skipped the SAG Awards due to health reasons, and we hope she feels better soon
While we loved seeing our favorite celebrities last night at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, one of our favorites ended up sitting this one out. Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland missed the SAG Awards for health reasons, but that doesn’t mean that she wasn’t there in spirit. In fact, chances are, she was watching the event from home and cheering on her co-stars and friends.
While Hyland didn’t get specific over her ailment, she’s definitely had a rough go of it in recent years. Currently 26, Hyland has suffered from kidney dysplasia for the majority of her life. Diagnosed at the age of nine, Hyland received a kidney transplant in 2012, and has been open with chatting about her condition.
Even sweeter, it was her father — Edward James Hyland — who donated the organ. While Hyland is on the mend, her condition still often makes working on set difficult. So, it might be the reason as to why she didn’t show.
We’re guessing that this may have been the reason why she wasn’t there, but it could have been another health-related concern as well. It’s a shame, too — since according to Hyland herself, her dress was going to be amazing.

The photo she chose is definitely adorable — Hyland is seen kissing her boyfriend, Dominic Sherwood. The two started dating back in 2015, and notably got matching arrow tattoos at the very start of their relationship. false
This year, Modern Family was up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series — but unfortunately, they lost it out to Orange Is The New Black. It was definitely a tough call, as both shows continue to stay strong. There’s always next year!
We hope that Hyland takes the time to recuperate and feel better. We’re sure she’ll be at the next red carpet event, looking stunning as always.
