Sarah Hyland clapped back after someone criticized her naked selfie with Wells Adams

She thought she was simply posting a sweet moment with her boyfriend and his adorable dog, but Sarah Hyland had to defend her naked selfie with boyfriend Wells Adams, and it’s clear she’s not playing around.

Since going public with their relationship last month, Hyland and Adams have been posting romantic pics all over social media. First they dressed up for Halloween as the Stranger Things kids, and later Hyland showed off a new necklace with her beau’s initial on it — and these two have instantly become one of the cutest couples on the block these days.

But Hyland’s latest selfie seemed to irritate some of her followers, and instead of ignoring all the haters, Hyland addressed them head-on in a series of tweets. And to this we say: Tell ’em, girl.

Firstly, here’s the adorable selfie of Hyland and Adams spooning with his Snapchat-famous pooch, Carl.

And, sigh, the backlash commenced. Hyland responded on Twitter, sharing screenshots of her response in the iPhone Notes app, as you do.

Hyland wrote: “Every once in a while I’ll go through my direct messages from you guys to see what you’re saying and respond! Answer questions. Give advice. Or even just say hello. But I woke up too early to go to work this morning and saw this…”

She then shared a screenshot of an angry direct message from an Instagram user who wrote: “You can go out with whoever you want. But there are limits. Do not you know that some private things, must stay private, and not be shared with the whole world. KEEP YOUR SEXUAL LIFE PRIVATE, we do not necessarily need to know all the details of your personal life.”

“Not putting her on blast,” Hyland responded. “She just brought to my attention that that picture I posted might have been inappropriate since we’re in bed. So I just have to say I’m so sorry…FOR POSTING AN ADORABLE PICTURE BECAUSE CARL WAS ACTING LIKE THE NUGGETIEST SNUGGLE BUG! Couldn’t let that moment pass without getting a picture.”

Hyland then explained that she loves being open with her fans, writing, “I will share what I [deem] ‘appropriate’ on social media because I still want you all to be updated. Because you guys are the greatest fans in the world. I even hate saying fans…because you’re people. You’re people who have had chronic illnesses, eating disorders, family situations that Modern Family helps you get through. People who share their stories with me and I love you all for that. So thank you for always [being] so wonderful.”

Hyland concluded by shared what she felt was a hypocritical attitude about nudity on social media in general:

It seems like this couple is just happy and in love, and we’re thrilled that Hyland isn’t letting a few online haters squash her sunshine.
