Sara Bareilles is writing songs for this new musical and we’re so excited

Be prepared for a for the catchiest musical ever, because it might just be coming to Broadway in April 2016. Why are we so optimistic?  Because Sara Bareilles is writing songs for it, and pretty much everything she writes / sings / DOES gets stuck in our heads forever (and we’re not complaining, TBH).

The musical, Waitress, based on the 2007 film of the same name by Adrienne Shelly and starring Keri Russell, will be about a small-town girl named Jessica who works at a diner (as, you guessed it, a waitress). She is pregnant and in a bad marriage, but when she hears about a pie-baking contest, she realizes it’s her opportunity to leave — but she’d have to leave her loved ones behind, too.

Directed by Tony-winner Diane Paulus, it’s been running at the American Repertory Theater, and will be hitting Broadway next year. Right now, we know nothing about casting or specific dates (although previews of the show will be at the Brooks Atkinson Theater in March 2016!), but we DO know that Sara Bareilles will be writing songs for the score, and OMG so excited. The show will also feature a book by Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam).

We have to wait some time until the show’s debut (about eight months from now), but until then, we’ll be listening to every song from Sara Bareilles we know and love. You go, Sara, for breaking into the Broadway world — we think you’re fabulous and *brave* (get it?).
