Give this trailer for Saoirse Ronan’s ‘Brooklyn’ all the Oscars

We finally got a first glimpse at Saoirse Ronan’s new film Brooklyn, which first premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The trailer dropped yesterday—and it features Ronan as Ellis Lacey, an Irish immigrant who travels to Brookyn, New York in the 1950s. She meets a guy, or “an Italian fella” as she refers him as, and of course, romance ensues. However, when she has to return to Ireland due to a death in the family, a new prospect rears its head (About Time‘s Domhnall Gleeson) and she must choose between her two homes and two romantic interests.

Already this movie has that retro feeling of other great coming-of-age period pieces like, An Education and Man in the Moon. The clothes, the style, the music —all so swoon-worthy. Mix in there a script by Nick Hornby and the brilliance of Ronan and Gleeson (who just happens to be starring in another little upcoming film called Star Wars). Really, do you need any more reasons to get excited? Oh yeah, it’s already generating Oscar buzz. Check it out…
