Sandra Oh’s emotional 2019 Golden Globes monologue will wreck you: “This moment is real”
Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg kicked off the 2019 Golden Globes with a rapturous opening monologue. The dynamic duo took the stage at the Beverly Hilton on January 6th, where they poked fun at A Star is Born nominee Lady Gaga’s “a hundred people in a room” anecdote and Hollywood’s representation problem (we’re still reeling from that Aloha and Ghost in the Shell shade, Sandra). Toward the end of the hilarious monologue, Oh got choked up as she revealed why she was eager to take on the role as co-host.
The Killing Eve actress, who’s nominated for her role in the BBC America drama series this evening, was referencing a new era of representation in Hollywood following the success of diverse stories such as Crazy Rich Asians, Roma, and Black Panther.
Oh is the first person of Asian descent to host the Golden Globes. Her jokes about Asian moms and Pepcid to combat the “Asian glow” has made so many Twitter users feel #SEEN.
