Twitter is crying over this amazing Emmy-winning show, because heaven is truly a place on earth
Sunday’s Primetime Emmys were, thankfully, a much more inclusive ceremony than usual: celebrating strong women, the LGBTQ community, and racial diversity. Accordingly, it recognized some of our all-time favorites, including The Handmaid’s Tale, Big Little Lies, Master of None, and Black Mirror‘s “San Junipero.” Now let’s talk about the latter, where heaven is a place on earth.
“San Junipero” was awarded with the two Emmys it was nominated for: Outstanding Television Movie and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Drama (!!!).
In his acceptance speech for Best TV Movie, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker explained it’s “a story about love and love will defeat hate. Love will win, but it might need a bit of help so maybe if all the beautiful people in this auditorium could start to physically make love with each other or yourselves on the count of three, this world would be a far better place. 3, 2, 1, go!”
San Junipero certainly is a party town tonight! Best Television Movie goes to @blackmirror for San Junipero! #Emmys pic.twitter.com/xhJ8J4g96d

While Brooker was joking about that last part, the sentiment about love winning — and all kinds of love, at that — really resonated with viewers. In fact, Twitter damn near lost its mind over this beautiful, affecting love story getting some much-deserved recognition.
Some seemed overwhelmed with emotion and excitement about the wins.

San Junipero is the most wholesome, beautifully shot, and well written piece of lesbian content that currently exists. Will always be a fav.

"San Junipero" & "Thanksgiving" should prove to Hollywood that lesbian & bi stories are interesting and need to be told.
