Solange collaborator Sampha performed his stunning new song on “The Tonight Show”

Though all the songs on Solange’s masterpiece A Seat at the Table are fantastic, “Don’t Touch My Hair” still stands out. Part of that is due to British singer Sampha, whose airy vocals add that je ne sais quoi extra layer of sonic texture.

Now, Sampha is getting ready to release his own album. And if his new single is any indication, it’s going to be absolutely amazing.

He performed “No One Knows Me (Like The Piano)” this week on The Tonight Show, and blew everyone away.

“No One Knows Me (Like The Piano)” is not the kind of song you might think *works* for late night TV. It’s preternaturally calm, only carried by the strength of the performer. But damn, does Sampha follow through.

It helps that the song’s title comes from this deceptively simple lyric: “No one knows me like the piano in my mother’s home.” It’s a heartbreaker of a sentiment, and Sampha has made it clear that the song is not just a metaphor but an honest tribute to a woman who meant the world to him:
