Sam Smith covering Amy Winehouse is making us shed true tears
Amy Winehouse was unabashedly different, a once-in-a-generation talent that left a hole in the music industry that yet to be filled. Still, musicians have kept her spirit alive while honoring the late singer with their renditions of her songs. Bands like Coldplay covered “Rehab/Fix You,” Bruno Mars put out his own version of “Valerie.” The latest to recreate the energy and heart of Winehouse is Sam Smith.
The singer appeared on Annie Mac’s eponymous BBC 1 Radio show last night, and decimated everyone emotionally with his cover of “Love Is A Losing Game.” You know, literally the perfect break-up song, if your way of handling breakups is sobbing in your bed with the sheets pulled over your head?
According to his interview with Annie Mac, Smith was inspired to try out the classic after seeing the recently released Winehouse documentary. “‘Love is a losing game’ is possible one of the most relatable lyrics I’ve ever heard,” said Smith.
